In this bold, cerebral, and emotionally raw dramatization of Max Frisch’s novel Gantenbein, a man caught in the throes of love, identity, and self-doubt imagines alternate versions of his own life. Faced with loss, he doesn’t collapse — he reinvents. By creating multiple narratives for the same relationship, he gives himself new names, new pasts, new perspectives — all in an attempt to understand not only the woman he loves, but also the man he is.

As we watch him try on different fates like tailored suits — to leave or stay, to speak or remain silent, to see or deliberately not see — we are invited into the complex mechanics of love, memory, and the ever-shifting theatre of the mind.

“One man loves one woman. This woman loves another man. The first man loves another woman, who in turn loves yet another man. A very ordinary story… whose ends never quite meet.”

Gantenbein is not a story in the traditional sense. It is a meditation on intimacy, betrayal, choice, and the fluidity of identity. It asks: Are we our truths — or our inventions?

Он создаёт параллельные версии своей жизни. Он примеряет судьбы, словно костюмы: остаётся или уходит, звонит или молчит, любит или теряет. В каждой новой истории он даёт себе другое имя, создаёт другой контекст — чтобы попытаться понять: себя, женщину, которую он любит, и саму природу этой любви.

«Один мужчина любит одну женщину. Эта женщина любит другого мужчину. Первый мужчина любит другую женщину, которую, в свою очередь, любит ещё один мужчина. Обычная история, у которой концы с концами никак не сходятся…»
