About Fool For Love

Presented in English

On the edge of the desert, where the past never stays buried.

In a run-down motel room on the edge of the Mojave Desert, May is trying to build a new life. Then Eddie appears.

Their reunion immediately reignites a relationship neither of them seems capable of escaping. Attraction turns to anger, tenderness gives way to accusation, and promises collide with memories of a past that continues to pull them back together.

As the night unfolds, fragments of their shared history begin to surface, revealing that the connection between May and Eddie is far more complicated — and more destructive — than it first appears. Watching from the sidelines is the mysterious Old Man, whose presence blurs the boundaries between memory and reality, past and present.

Sam Shepard’s Fool for Love is a raw, darkly funny, and explosive portrait of two people caught between the desire to escape each other and the inability to let each other go. Beneath their volatile relationship lies a story about family, identity, obsession, and the powerful ways the past shapes who we become.

Intimate and intensely physical, the play unfolds almost in real time, transforming a single motel room into an emotional battleground where love and resentment are often impossible to separate.

A modern American classic, Fool for Love asks what happens when the person you desperately want to leave behind is also the person you cannot imagine living without.
