I'm often asked "How do you come up the set and costume design?" Since I'm not a designer, this process has quite a fortuitous and random nature. Something along the lines of "only if you knew what rubbish was used..." It surely helps when you are dealing with a period play. However, the bulk of our productions take place in a particular, “synthetic” space, so that even the period costumes only create the atmosphere of the given time frame rather than convey historical accuracy. But in the end it comes down to thinking about the matrix of the play, living through it in the rehearsals, singling out its essence and immersing yourself into its atmosphere. Then, you suddenly discover that the whole world speaks to you precisely in the language of this play. At that point, any randomly seen advertising, picture, or illustration immediately validates itself - "Here it is: this is IT!" Such was the case today. Once I saw an image on someone else's FB feed with a caption "Wearable shapes," I was inspired to surf the web for ideas and found a costume line for our upcoming play "Servant of Two Masters" that will be presented by our youth group. Меня часто спрашивают:"А как вы придумываете оформление спектакля?" Так как я не художник, то этот процесс имеет довольно-таки случайное течение. Сродни известному - ''Когда б вы знали из какого сора..." Хорошо, когда ты изначально знаешь, что это будут костюмы исторической эпохи. Но в основном наши спектакли происходят в каком-то особом, условном пространстве, и даже исторические костюмы скорее передают стиль эпохи, чем придерживаются исторической точности. Но суть в том, что когда ты думаешь о материале пьесы, проживаешь ее, выделяешь для себя ее суть и погружаешься в ее атмосферу, то вдруг тебе кажется, что весь мир говорит с тобой именно на языке этой пьесы. И любая, случайно увиденная реклама, картинка, иллюстрация, тут же кричит -"Вот оно: то самое!" Вот так и сегодня - увидев в чужой ленте фэйсбука картинку с надписью "wearable shapes", я пошла серфить интернет и обнаружила решение костюмов для нашего будущего спектакля подростковой группы "Слуга двух господ".
