Call for Artists: Join Theatre33’s Featured Artist Program for the 2026–2027 Season
Theatre33 is now accepting submissions for our 2026–2027 Featured Artist Program.
Each season, Theatre33 invites visual artists from Bellevue, Seattle, the Eastside, and the greater Puget Sound region to exhibit their work alongside our theatrical productions.
The idea is simple: bring different art forms into conversation with one another.
A painting can respond to a character. A photograph can echo the atmosphere of a play. A sculpture can explore a theme the audience has just encountered onstage.
Through the #Theatre33FeaturedArtist program, selected artists transform our theatre lobby into a temporary gallery, creating an artistic experience that begins before the performance and continues long after the curtain falls.
Your Art. Our Stage. A New Audience.
Selected artists have the opportunity to:
Exhibit artwork at Theatre33 during the run of a production
Introduce their work to Theatre33’s multilingual and multicultural audiences
Sell exhibited artwork and keep 100% of the proceeds
Be promoted through Theatre33’s website, social media, newsletters, and show materials
Connect with theatergoers, performers, directors, and other members of the local arts community
Explore the relationship between visual art, storytelling, performance, and culture
Artists may also choose to donate a portion of their sales to support Theatre33’s youth education programs and tuition assistance fund, although this is completely optional.
Inspiration from Our 2026–2027 Season
This season gives artists an especially wide range of themes to explore.
Vassa — by Maxim Gorky
November–December 2026
A family, a business, a legacy — and the increasingly desperate attempts to hold all three together.
Themes include family, power, inheritance, ambition, morality, survival, and social change.
4.48 Psychosis — by Sarah Kane
January 2027
A fragmented, poetic work that explores consciousness, isolation, connection, pain, and the human need to be understood.
Its unconventional structure offers artists enormous freedom for abstract, conceptual, photographic, and mixed-media interpretations.
The Suicide — by Nikolai Erdman
February 2027
Dark comedy meets social satire in Erdman’s famous exploration of identity, desperation, self-interest, and the absurdity of society.
Artists might respond to themes of individuality, social pressure, bureaucracy, absurdity, and the strange comedy of human behavior.
The Servant of Two Masters — by Carlo Goldoni
May–June 2027
Physical comedy, mistaken identities, romance, disguises, and theatrical chaos make Goldoni’s classic comedy a completely different visual world.
The production invites interpretations inspired by commedia dell’arte, masks, movement, color, Italian theatrical traditions, and playful character design.
And throughout the season, Theatre33 will also present family and youth productions, including Seussical Jr., offering additional possibilities for colorful, imaginative, and family-oriented artwork.
What Kind of Art Are We Looking For?
We welcome artists working in a wide variety of visual media, including:
Painting, photography, illustration, sculpture, printmaking, collage, mixed media, textile art, digital art, and other visual forms.
Your work does not need to literally illustrate a production.
Some artists respond directly to a play. Others respond to a single theme, emotion, historical period, character, or question raised by the story.
We are interested in seeing your interpretation.
Emerging artists, established artists, students, and artists who have never exhibited in a theater before are all encouraged to apply.
Art Belongs in Conversation
Theatre33 believes theater is more than what happens onstage.
Our goal is to create a space where artists, audiences, cultures, and ideas can encounter one another.
A performance might last two hours.
But the conversation it creates can continue much longer.
The Featured Artist Program allows visual artists to become part of that conversation — and gives our audiences another way to experience the ideas behind each production.

A short artist statement
Up to five examples of your work or a link to your portfolio
The Theatre33 production or productions you are most interested in exhibiting alongside
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and exhibition opportunities are limited, so early submissions are encouraged.
Your art deserves an audience.
