Now that the run of Constellations is completed at home, we are packing up the set and taking it on the road to Spokane this week for the biennial Kaleidoscope Festival that is part of the national American Association of Community Theatre's festival circuit. Each state holds its own festival for community theaters and sends top advancing troupes to the regional festival. Washington gets to send the top two productions that will go up against productions from Oregon, Alaska and Idaho at the regional competition that will take place in Boise, Idaho in March. From there, one entry will advance to the AACTFest (June 2025) in Des Moines, Iowa.
This is our second trip to the Kaleidoscope. It is a really fun endeavor as there are particular rules, with the most prominent being the 10-60-10 rule. Each group gets 10 minutes to set up , 60 minutes to perform and another 10 minutes to strike the set. Another fun one is the requirement that the entire set needs to fit into the 10x10 foot square. Watching the set up and strike down is a real treat for tech-inclined patrons.
If you will be in or around Spokane area on 2/15, come see Constellations and lets get together after the show! Here is a bit more about Stage Left Theater, the host of the festival, and Kaleidoscope Festival and its participants in the Inlander, Spokane's independent newspaper/publication.
