Meet the Cast: Daniel – The Little Prince

For Daniel, theatre is about creating meaningful connections through storytelling and inviting audiences to experience the world through a new perspective. At 17 years old, Daniel has been part of the Theatre33 family for several years and takes on the roles of the Little Prince, the Aviator, and the Fox in The Little Prince. As Theatre33 prepares to perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, we sat down with Daniel to learn more about his theatre journey, what inspires his performances, and why he believes this timeless story speaks to audiences of every age.

A Conversation with Daniel

Tell us a little about yourself.

Outside of theatre, I enjoy playing piano, pickleball, and chess. I perform piano several times a year, and I really enjoy the chance to share music with others on stage. I’ve also been teaching chess for the past four years, and I love the opportunity to work with students, explain new ideas, and share my love for chess with them.

How long have you been involved with Theatre33?

I’ve been with Theatre33 for about 3–5 years.

Who do you play in The Little Prince?

I play the Little Prince, the Aviator, and the Fox.

What is your favorite thing about performing?

My favorite thing about performing is that it gives me a way to express myself to an audience without directly saying anything about myself, and in a way that draws them into the moment with me. I also really enjoy having the spotlight on stage and showing audiences something new and interesting.

What is one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

I’m a certified scuba diver and have dived down to around 60 feet underwater. I love how calm it feels beneath the surface, even though it was a little intimidating at first.

What do you love most about your character?

I love that the Little Prince approaches everyone he meets with genuine curiosity and openness. I think that curiosity makes life far more interesting and is something we should all try to hold onto.

What has been the biggest challenge in preparing for this role?

The biggest challenge has been portraying the Little Prince’s strongest emotions in a way that feels honest and natural. Some moments are deeply emotional, and making them feel real instead of forced has been an important part of the process.

Do you have a favorite scene in the show?

My favorite scenes are with the Businessman and the King because they show adults trying to control or own everything around them, while the Little Prince is more interested in exploring and understanding the world. They’re funny scenes, but they also reveal how the things people chase can sometimes be surprisingly empty.

If you could describe The Little Prince in three words, what would they be?

Honest. Innocent. Bittersweet.

How does performing make you feel?

Confident and important.

The best thing about Theatre33 is…

That they taught me everything I know about acting and helped me become more confident.

How do you feel about performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe?

I’m very excited! I think it will be an incredible experience, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to travel and perform in another country.

What are you most excited about for the trip?

I’m really excited to see as many plays and performances as possible while we’re in Edinburgh. I’m also looking forward to exploring the city and hopefully seeing Edinburgh Castle if we have time.

Have you traveled internationally before?

Yes, I lived in Sweden for several years and traveled to roughly ten other countires in Europe during that time.

What are you most looking forward to doing in Scotland?

I’m most looking forward to seeing Edinburgh Castle and exploring more of the city. I’m really excited to be in a place with so much history and culture and getting to explore it.

When you think about Edinburgh, what do you imagine?

Streets full of performers and a castle in the background.

What do you hope audiences remember about The Little Prince?

His curiosity.

If someone is thinking about coming to see The Little Prince, what would you tell them?

"The Little Prince is far more than just a children's story. It makes you reflect on how relationships are formed and kept, what it means to grow up, and how adults see the world and what is important in it. I highly encourage both kids and adults to come see it as there is something in it for everyone!"

I’m really excited for the trip and for the chance to share this show with a new audience! I hope as many people as possible come see it and experience The Little Prince with us.
